Maria Florou studied History and Archaeology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Museology at the University of Leicester in England.
In 2002, she had the opportunity to work for the first time in museums in the field of organization and implementation of educational programs, which gave her the chance to experience the museum as a place of informal education and social activities with many possibilities.

 

In 2004 she was employed at Technopolis of the Municipality of Athens in the fields of Visual Arts and Events. Since 2011, she holds the position of Head of the Industrial Museum Sector. She participated and took over the coordination of the museological team as well as the project management for the realization of the current Industrial Museum of Photogas. She has also supervised the Sales and promotion of the Industrial Museum of Photogas and its promotion. She was a member of the Board of Directors of OPANDA (Organization of Culture, Sports and Youth of the Municipality of Athens), 2017-2019. In 2020, she was appointed Coordinator of the Committee for Museums and Educational Programs under the Municipality of Athens’ Programmatic Agreement for the “For the unification, enrichment and promotion of the cultural fabric of Athens”, supervising the work and actions for the museums of the municipality. In 2022, he took over the coordination of a group of students in the Postgraduate Program of the University of Athens, “Museum Studies” in the course “Special Case Studies of Museums and Monuments”. In 2023 she took over the management of the project of the Maria Callas Museum and since 2024 she has been the Museum Manager at Technopolis, dividing her duties between the two museum organizations.

 

Since 2013, she has been participating in conferences, research and studies, has been involved in the realization of periodic exhibitions and has written articles in scientific journals related to the dissemination of industrial heritage, different interpretive approaches and public engagement in museums.
