Coffee consumption has traditionally been an integral part of everyday life in Greece, making the sector particularly attractive and dynamic. A significant share of the domestic market is accounted for by a small number of large companies, which play a leading role in the sector. At the same time, the café chain market is characterised by intense competition, due to the large number of outlets offering coffee products. The leading chains continuously seek to strengthen their market position by expanding and upgrading their store networks. However, the sector has periodically faced significant challenges, the most recent being the rise in international coffee prices and the introduction of higher VAT rates, both of which affect companies’ operating costs and consumer demand.
